This sub trunk illusion plans package details J C Sum’s updated original design for the traditional “classic” Substitution Trunk or Metamorphosis illusion built like an ATA flight case. He offers 3 different designs including two pack flat designs.
What makes the Pack flat #2 design so incredible is that the sub trunk can pack completely flat into itself to form an ATA case that measures just 39.5″ x 26″ x 6″!

ATA Sub Trunk
An ATA case is shown on stage and a spectator is invited on stage to examine it. The illusionist enters the case that is latched and locked with a padlock. The female assistant steps up onto the top of the case and lifts up an all-round curtain. Instantly, the female assistant is seen to have transformed into the illusionist. The curtain is dropped to the ground and the female assistant is nowhere to be seen.
The illusionist jumps off the case, opens it and reveals the assistant to be inside.
One secret that makes all the difference is the design of the sub trunk – the size, trap style, position and how it opens down. This is an original design for a ATA case-style substitution trunk that uses ATA (airline transport approved) or flight case components and designed for speed.
The sub trunk illusion is designed to be sturdy, lightweight and durable. It is designed to be built solid and be used as a transport case for other props. However, a “pack flat” version is also shared in the building description.
